About the Studio

The Maus Vocal Studio has been operating in the Austin area since 2012, and currently serves students at Canyon Vista Middle School, Westwood High School, and McNeil High School, as well as private students outside these schools.  Students participate in various performance events and competitions, including the TMEA All-State audition process, UIL Solo & Ensemble, and the South Texas NATS Spring Auditions.  In these events, the Maus Vocal Studio has been very well represented: they have been selected as members of TMEA All-Region and All-State choirs, received numerous 1st Division ratings at Solo & Ensemble, and have been semifinalists, finalists, and winners at the South Texas NATS Spring Auditions.  In addition, students have been seen locally performing with Zach Scott Theatre’s Pre-Professional Company, and have been accepted to collegiate music and performance programs at Oklahoma City University, Texas Tech University, University of Houston, and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is pretty simple.  I believe that everyone can learn to sing, and that my job as a voice teacher is to help each student uncover what is unique and special about his or her own voice.  We are not all equally blessed with the same voice - how boring the world would be if we were!  But everyone can become a better singer and a better musician, and along the way, a better human being.  My foundational training is classical singing, and those principles are what I teach, but I also try to help students apply healthy singing to whatever style they wish to sing.  There is a healthy way to do most things as a singer, so I want to help my students find those methods; this will allow them to sing for as long in life as they wish.  I do maintain high standards for my students: I expect them to do the work, to devote the necessary practice time, and to be engaged in lessons.  I hold myself to the same standard: as a teacher my students have a right to expect me to be prepared for their lessons, to be professional and engaged, and to give each student equal dedicated focus.  I act as a guide on each student's journey, and I hope to provide some of the puzzle pieces that help to complete the whole picture.   My main goal for my students long-term is that one day, they will not need me anymore, and be fully prepared for the next phase of the vocal journey.
